WELCOME TO GREAT OAK HIGH SCHOOL: CAS HELP

For the International Baccalaureate student who needs a hand in all the madness.

We all know how hard the IB Diploma can be. We also know how hard it can be to balance studies, sports, leisure, and extracurricular activities. To return some time to your schedule, and reduce your stress levels, this site is dedicated to guiding IB Diploma students to finding CAS activities, and even a CAS project.

What is CAS?

Q & A
What is CAS?

CAS stands for "Creativity," "Action," and "Service."

-Creativity: Includes art, or any other experience that involves creative thinking.
-Action: Involves physical exertion contributing to a healthy lifestyle, complementing academic work.
-Service: An unpaid and voluntary exchange that has a learning benefit for the student. The rights, dignity and autonomy of all those involved are respected.

Why do I have to do CAS?

The bottom line is that the IB Diploma wants you to, so you don't have much choice. But that doesn't mean you can't enjoy it. CAS helps students be more connected to their community and grow to become well rounded individuals in the future. With requirements in Creation, Action, and Service, it will expose you to a variety of new and different experiences.

When should I begin my CAS project?

If I told you to a specific date, I'm sure you'd wait until the day before. Begin your CAS project as soon as possible, but don't rush into it. You'll have your Junior and Senior year to plan it out and execute, so time shouldn't be a problem if you keep your eyes open for the opportunities.
